Arrifana Beach - Aljezur Algarve

A large expanse of sand (stretching for more than half a kilometre), which is sheltered by cliffs. It forms a kind of bay and is therefore the beach in this municipality that is least affected by the breaking of waves. At the southern end of the beach, there is a narrow conical and pointed rock standing upright that has the appearance of a giant statue and has been given the name of Pedra da Agulha (The Needle). Outside the summer bathing season, this beach is very popular amongst surfers and bodyboarders. Close to the ruins of the Fortaleza da Arrifana, a fortress built by the Moors, there is a beautiful panoramic view over the Costa Vicentina. The beach is easily reached via a ramp and some wooden steps.

How to get there

Access is via a tarmac road running from Aljezur to the beach (roughly 9 kilometres). Traffic is restricted on the road leading to the beach. There is an alternative access to the beach via some steps.
